About The Session:

Wondering about the latest assistive technology to support your learners with deaf-blindness, and/or significant intellectual disabilities in school, at home, and in the community?  Join colleagues for a session rich with material demonstrations, discussions for implementation of AT materials/strategies, and sharing to support your work in communication, English language arts, and mathematics.

About The Presenter(s):

Patricia Byers:

has a Master of Science in Speech Pathology from Pennsylvania State University.  She has 32 years of experience as a pediatric SLP working primarily with students with multiple disabilities in a variety of settings including pediatric day school, inpatient/outpatient pediatric rehabilitation, and public K-12 schools.  She has 15 years of experience as an Assistive Technology Team Leader in Alamance-Burlington Schools. In 2001, she was asked to be the lead in creating an assistive technology team for the school system from the ground up.  Over the past 15 years, it has grown from an assessment team to a team that supports 34 self-contained classrooms with AT options as well as assessments for any student in the county.  In 2007, she was asked to be part of a statewide initiative to help every county in NC create their own assistive technology team, and new counties are trained every year. She has presented at several statewide conferences including the NC Augmentative Communication conference, the state EC conference, and DPI Summer Institutes, and she presented with her state team at a national assistive technology conference.
