Utilizing iPad Technology to Enhance Client Training and Employer Engagement

About The Session:
This session will highlight how utilization of iPad technology can effectively enhance job development, job placement and employer engagement when using the appropriate apps. Participants will experience demonstration of strategies for using the iPad to address communication barriers, skill development, and behavioral issues of individuals with significant disabilities. An overview of a US Department of Labor, Office of Disability Employment Policy funded iPad Technology Pilot that has just begun with Project Search participants in North Carolina will be shared, including the goals and expected deliverables of this initiative and how it could positively impact job placement for persons with significant disabilities in North Carolina.

Jennifer White:
has worked in the field of rehabilitation since her first paid job with the ARC of Bucks County, PA. After a career as a special education high school transition teacher, she opened Able Opportunities, Inc., a national consulting company specializing in vocational, education, and communication goals and programs for students and adults. In 2006 she created the Work Independence Network (WIN) Program, a replicable business model for hiring and retaining employees with intellectual disabilities in collaboration with Harrison Medical Center and Kitsap County DD. In 2014, she launched the Work Autonomy App, a person-centered accommodation tool that is creating an increase in independence and a decrease in coaching need. As a subject matter expert and consultant, she designs and facilitates collaborative projects with government agencies, schools, employers, families, and vocational rehabilitation providers. She specializes in innovative school to work programs, employer engagement through business-minded strategies, and assistive technology tools leading to successful placement in paid employment.
