About The Session:
Figuring out how to help an adult with a communication disability can be a challenge. This presentation will look at some of the resources, funding, and communication device options available. Specific attention will be given to the funding process and high-tech solutions, including alternative access methods for those adults who are unable to use their hands easily. By having a reliable means of communication, adults can become more engaged with people and in activities, including work, education, and leisure.

Dawn Sowers:
is a Speech Language Pathologist with a wide base of experience and knowledge in the field of Augmentative Communication. She has worked in schools, hospitals and as a consultant specializing in augmentative and alternative communication for over 19 years. She received her degrees from the University of Florida and University of North Carolina- Greensboro. She currently works for Assistive Technology Works and supports communication devices from the Prentke Romich Company and Saltillo Inc.
