About The Session:
This presentation offers a strategy for equipping individuals with Apple devices (iPad / iPhone) to gain greater access to information. The presentation includes individualized assessment guidelines, and in-depth techniques for training in a 10 week mini-center covering Apple device speech output (VoiceOver) and speech recognition (Siri), searching the Internet, emailing, taking notes, accessing clocks, audio books, calculator, calendar, reminder, music, third-party color identification, money identification, document scanning, and magnification apps.
About The Presenter(s):
Jessica Caswell:
graduated from Western Michigan University with a dual Master’s Degree in Vision Rehabilitation Therapy and Rehabilitation Counseling in 2008. In 2009, she began working as an Independent Living Rehabilitation Counselor with the North Carolina Division of Services for the Blind. She currently serves Orange, Moore, Chatham, Person, Granville and Vance Counties. In her job, she has conducted classes and home-based training to help clients cope with vision loss. In the past year, she has begun to train clients to use an iPad as a tool for independence. She has created a 10-week curriculum on how to use the device’s accessibility features.
Kim Tyler:
is currently employed by the NC Division of Services for the Blind, and serves as Social Worker for the Blind for Orange and Durham Counties. Kim has her Masters in Social Work from North Carolina Central University and Bachelor’s Degree from The University of North Florida. Her experience includes six years in the social work field including over four years working with individuals with disabilities with an emphasis on visual disabilities.
