FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 4TH 9:45 TO 10:45 EXPO CENTER
Increasing Disability Inclusion in the Workplace through Business to Business Networking
Ms. Beth Butler
About The Session:
Employers need trusted partners to support their recruitment and retention strategies for people with disabilities. Employers focus on developing disability inclusion strategies for a variety of reasons, and federal contractors are a group that has a particularly high need for services and supports around disability inclusion. It has been over 2 years since the new rules for Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act went into effect requiring a 7% utilization target across all job groups, and the obligation for employers to invite both applicants and incumbent employees with disabilities to self-identify. This has created a perfect opportunity for collaboration among businesses and community partners ready to serve as applicant referral sources and disability subject matter experts. Following a brief overview of the Section 503 requirements, participants will learn about some of the challenges employers are facing related to compliance, and how VR professionals can best engage with business networks (such as the US Business Leadership Network, the North Carolina Business Leadership Network, and the NET) to effectively support the needs of business.
